Reading Buddies

There has been plenty of excitement in kindergarten at Steele Elementary recently as students welcomed some very special visitors - newly hatched chicks! While the chicks have brought lots of smiles and curiosity to the classroom, they have also become wonderful reading buddies for our young learners.

First graders visited the kindergarten classrooms so they could practice their reading skills by reading aloud to the chicks. Students eagerly gathered around the brooder with books in hand, sharing stories and using their best reading voices with their tiny feathered friends. Reading to animals can help build confidence, fluency, and expression, and our students loved having such attentive listeners.

The experience also created meaningful opportunities for students to learn about animal life cycles, responsibility, kindness, and caring for living things. Most importantly, it made reading even more engaging and fun for our youngest Steele Stars.
