The November all-school assembly at Steele Elementary was filled with excitement and anticipation as hundreds of students found their spots on the cafeteria floor. Laughter and chatter filled the air, creating a warm atmosphere that welcomed everyone as they prepared for a fun-filled gathering.
The highlight of the assembly was the student council's presentation, which explained to the student body what the "Character Strong" trait would be for December, Empathy.
Student council members acted out various examples of what empathy is and how students can be empathetic during everyday situations.
Mrs. Shinn explained, "Empathy is an emotion you feel when you imagine how another person feels in a situation and wonder what they might need or how to make the situation better."
At the conclusion of the empathy skits, students were challenged to look for moments in which they can show empathy for someone else. The December student council fundraiser was also presented during the assembly. The student council has decided to adopt two children from the Angel Trees of Knox County to purchase gifts for during the upcoming holiday season.
The assembly was also an opportunity to recognize the November students of the month from each grade level and recognize the winners from the staff door decorating contest.
As we step into this beautiful season of giving and gratitude, let's remember the importance of empathy. Life can be challenging for many, and a little kindness can go a long way. Take a moment to connect with those around you, offering support and understanding. Together, we can create an environment filled with warmth and care that uplifts everyone in our community.
