Meet the Administrator

Mrs. Mindi Ritchie

Assistant Principal, Galesburg High School

Professional Experience, Achievements, and Goals

Mrs. Mindi Ritchie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Knox College in 1999, majoring in both Psychology and Spanish.  She then earned her Master of Arts degree from the University of Dayton (Ohio) in 2004, in Clinical Psychology. Mrs. Ritchie holds both Type 73 (Counseling) and Type 75 (Administration) certificates, having completed both programs at Bradley University in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Her Master's thesis was titled "An Investigation of PTSD Symptoms as a Mechanism For Revictimization in Women".

Prior to her work in education, Mrs. Ritchie held the position of Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Bridgeway, INC.  She says, “I loved my work in the clinical setting, but I realized that by working in a school, I could broaden my scope in terms of the areas in which I served students.” She started working for CUSD #205 in 2009, when she was hired as the Career and Technical Education Coordinator in the Galesburg Area Vocational Center.  She transitioned to the role of School Counselor and Counseling Department Chair at GHS. She held those positions for six years.

This year marks Mrs. Ritchie’s second year as GHS Assistant Principal. Regarding short-term goal setting, she is focused on continuing her work to cultivate a supportive and collaborative environment for students and staff at Galesburg High School.  She seeks to make the important work of both teachers and students fun and enjoyable for all.

Looking to the future, she hopes to continue build a legacy of success at Galesburg High School.  Mrs. Ritchie believes, “we must continue to ask ourselves what practices best support our students and best help them prepare for their journey after their tenure at GHS.”

One of the most memorable experiences during her career with District 205 occurred when a previous student informed Mrs. Ritchie that she had considered ending her life, but that because Mrs. Ritchie had cared enough to listen and had encouraged her to seek help, she decided to continue her fight.  An additional memorable moment occurred when Mrs. Ritchie was working in her office after school in 2011. A staff member ran by Mrs. Ritchie’s office and shouted, “Come on, Obama is coming!”. On a whim she ran out of the building with the staff member, and collected other peers along the way. When the group exited the band doors, they were all greeted by the Secret Service.  Everyone formed a line and those in front were corralled into an area. A short time later Mrs. Ritchie and other GHS staff were able to meet and speak with former President Barack Obama.

Mrs. Ritchie resides in Galesburg with her husband, Jeremy, and two children, Ava (11), and Alex (10).
