Spoon River Field Trip

Mrs. Buebe’s Environmental Science classes took a field trip to the Wolf Covered Bridge over the Spoon River. Their goal was to evaluate the quality of water and life in and around the river. Measuring dissolved oxygen, testing for nitrogen and phosphates from fertilizer runoff, and checking turbidity were all important parts of the visit.

Mrs. Buebe’s students are learning not just about biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Her students are learning about the importance of caring for the natural resources around us. They are learning to be good stewards of the environment around them, and they are realizing that they themselves are part of that ecosystem.

As Japanese conservationalist Shozo Tanaka once said over one hundred years ago,

“The care of rivers is not a question of rivers but of the human heart.”

Physics at Western Illinois University

Mr. Baxter’s Physics and AP Physics students became college students for the day as they traveled to Western Illinois University in Macomb. The WIU Physics Department challenged our GHS students with labs and presentations involving ballistic pendulums and star formation.
