Meet Mr. PowellTo the friends and families of the Galesburg Silver Streaks,

My name is Dan Powell, and I am excited to be one of the new Assistant Principals to GHS. I graduated from Bushnell Prairie City High School in 2000 and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in History from WIU in 2006. While I may be new to the position, I am not new to the district. I came to district 205 in 2008 as a Social Studies teacher with GHS. It was in that year I moved to Galesburg and have been living in the community ever since. In 2011, I became a social studies teacher for GHS North. I received my Master’s Degree Educational Leadership from WIU in December of 2013 and took a job as Principal of Knoxville Junior High in August of 2014. I served in that role until accepting this job to come back to GHS.

For people that do not know me, I would probably be best described as an energetic, outgoing and fun loving person. I believe it is very important to enjoy what you are doing no matter what it is. However, if you would have asked me in high school what I thought my future career might be, education probably would not have been it. Then on my path to being a teacher I wouldn’t have thought administration was in my future either. But I feel blessed to be doing what I have done, am doing, and will continue to do in the future.

My role at GHS can best be described as pertaining to student services and building safety. My goal is establish positive relationships with as many staff, students and community members as possible and contribute what I can to a positive place to work and learn. I believe that cultivating relationships is what makes everyone successful, especially students. My door is always open to anyone so please reach out. And most importantly, I am very excited to be a Silver Streak once again!
