Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy Program

Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy Program
Posted on 11/09/2017
Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy ProgramGHS is now participating in the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy Program for this school year.  We are excited to offer this opportunity to our students, and hope it will inspire students to pursue biliteracy, recognize students who excel in language skills, and provide evidence of these achievements to future employers and college admissions offices.
Former State Superintendent of Education Christopher A. Koch stated, “Language skills are increasingly valuable in today’s global economy. The seal will help promote and acknowledge the great value and many benefits that come with being multilingual and multicultural.”
By participating in the program, our district has agreed to meet the requirements set forth to allow students to earn a Seal of Biliteracy on their transcript.  Only students meeting the criteria specified in the state legislation and rules may be awarded the State Seal of Biliteracy or, if applicable, the State Commendation toward Biliteracy.  To earn this distinction, students will need to take assessments to show a level of
 proficiency in two languages.
Mrs. Ritchie is the School Coordinator for the program.  Contact Mrs. Ritchie if you have additional questions.  She can be reached at 973-2001 or by email mritchie<at>galesburg205<dot>org
